Steps to be Confident

Confidence is a type of belief that helps you do something better than if you had no confidence. Confidence is being prepared. Preparation is getting ready for something such as a vacation, a test, or a field trip. If I have no time to prepare, I might not be ready which make me feel confused, scared, and unsure, which makes me feel unconfident. Being prepared means I know what to do, where I am going and I’m ready to go wherever I have to go. The point of being prepared is so you know what’s happening and know what to do. I can act more confidently if I am prepared.

Confidence is also when I think I can do something because I practiced and improved. For example, I never knew how to swim. I was afraid to drown. Then my mom put me in swimming classes. I practiced swimming by learning how to breathe, move my arms and float. Then I finally knew how to swim. The same goes for how I learned to play the piano. I practiced piano until I was confident I can play songs like “Jingle Bells.” I get more confident the more I practice until I master my skill.

I can also break things into smaller steps until it is easier for me to do. If I am confident I can finish the smaller steps, then I will eventually be able to do the bigger steps. For example, a big project for me is cleaning my room. I felt it would take me forever to finish. I felt depressed. Then I had confidence that I can take it one step at a time. First, I made my bed. Then I picked up my clothes and toys, and cleaned my desk. Then I was done! I can break everything that is difficult into smaller steps.

My life goal is to be successful. This seems so difficult and far away so I break this goal into smaller and easier steps. I am confident I can pass third grade. And I am confident I will accomplish the other smaller steps I have to overcome in order to reach my ultimate goal of living a successful life.
